As the boat heads north across Lago Argentino, the water gradually shifts to a milky turquoise color, a sign you’re entering the Upsala sector. The scenery feels wider and more open here, with snow-covered peaks framing the route long before the glacier appears.

The first major stop is Spegazzini Glacier, known for having the tallest ice wall in Los Glaciares National Park. Its towering face, narrow spires, and deep blue fractures make it one of the most dramatic early views on the route and a great preview of what’s ahead.

Before reaching Upsala Glacier, the cruise navigates through one of the most striking features of this journey: massive free-floating icebergs. Some are sharp and crystalline, others smooth and rounded from years of movement. It’s a rare look at how large blocks of ice break away and travel across the lake.

As you sail further, you’ll pass the Heim and Peineta glaciers, two steep tributaries that feed the Upsala system. Their blue-white layers and rugged surface offer a textured contrast to Upsala’s wide, solid mass. They also give a sense of scale. These glaciers are impressive on their own, yet they’re only the “suppliers” feeding the main one.

The highlight of the journey is the panoramic view of Glacier Upsala Argentina. Unlike Perito Moreno’s vertical wall, Upsala stretches broad and horizontal, almost like a frozen river meeting the horizon. Its width, rather than its height, is what makes it unforgettable. From here, you can observe drift ice, crevasses, and layers formed by centuries of snowfall, a reminder of Patagonia’s living, shifting landscape.

Toward the end of the navigation, you’ll approach Perito Moreno, the most iconic glacier in the park. Here, the route shifts from wide landscapes to a close-up encounter with its towering ice wall, thunderous cracks, and deep-blue crevasses, a powerful finish to the journey.
